Volume Breakdown
The Volume Breakdown Tool is designed to quickly and accurately provide key insights related to raw turning movement count data. By using this tool, you can determine peak hour, peak hour factor, heavy vehicle percentage, and other essential information that will assist in creating an accurate Synchro model—without the need to manually process the data.
How it Works
The tool operates by utilizing turning movement count data files, typically provided by counters in the form of Excel files. The data is processed using our advanced algorithms, which parse the information and present the results in easily digestible tables.
To use the tool, simply upload your turning movement count data file (in Excel format) by clicking the upload button in the Volume Files section. The tool will handle the processing within seconds. Supported file formats include .xls, .xlsx, and .xlsm. Please note that .csv files are currently not supported.
The tool is currently designed to process count data collected on a single day, presented in 15-minute intervals, with road names and directions clearly labeled as headers. Additionally, the time formatting must be consistent for the tool to function correctly. As the platform evolves, future updates will enable the tool to handle a broader range of file types.
Tool Features
AM, PM, and Weekend
The tool is divided into three categories to enable users to obtain peak hour and associated values for each of the three primary study periods. Users are only required to upload files for Weekday and Weekend data. The algorithm automatically determines the AM and PM breakdown from a single file, eliminating the need to upload separate files for each period.
Settings Section
Time Range
In this section, users can define the time range within which they would like the peak hour to be calculated. You can select a start and end time to create a custom range for peak hour analysis. This option is available for all three categories (AM, PM, and Weekend).
Growth Rate
This feature allows users to specify a percentage rate by which they wish to grow their turning movement counts. Please note that the tool currently calculates peak hour values based on the raw data counts and does not account for values based on the grown volumes.
Merge U-Turns
This feature allows you to specify which turn lane U-turn volumes should be merged with. The selected option is applied universally across all intersections and for all scenarios — AM, PM, and Weekend.
